Dear Parents,
THIS MONTH /// We are rounding the corner and starting unit five of Friendzy. We hope that you are beginning to see your child grow in their knowledge and understanding of God’s design for friendship, and maybe you're learning some things along the way as well!
This month’s unit is titled I Am Brave. During this unit we will be discussing what it looks like to be brave when facing challenging circumstances in life. We also will be teaching the students what it means to have courage.
Catchphrase (main point for students to catch on to):
I Am Brave
Key Verses (Biblical anchor points):
1 Corinthians 16:13
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
We think there will be a lot of engaging conversations around the idea of bravery. From the outside bravery may look bold and confident, however inside most brave people still feel a little scared. Talk about what Bravery means to you and how you see your student exhibiting bravery. Continue the Conversation at home; here are the main points of this unit:
Bravery is a choice. When we are afraid, when we fear, we have a choice. People either let the fear of failure stop them from pushing through OR they choose to be brave. Bravery doesn’t mean that you aren’t still a bit scared; it just means you choose to keep going. Even small acts of bravery develop our character and strengthen us to be who God calls us to be.
Bravery has a domino effect. Standing firm in what is right is vitally important and requires us to be brave. When we choose to be brave it strengthens us and those around us.
Don’t make decisions out of fear. By focusing on our fear, we give it power to keep us from standing firm. Fear of failure can keep us from doing the right thing.
Courage helps us overcome big and small challenges. Being brave isn’t always easy. Failure is a fear for all of us. But the ability to pick ourselves up and try again shows true courage and develops the habit of never giving up.
HOW TO ENCOURAGE BRAVERY/// It can be overwhelming at any age to face fear of failure and be brave. One way you can support your student is by reframing failure as an opportunity for growth. When failure is viewed as positive, it bolsters your students' confidence to be brave and try new things even if they may fail. Share with your student a time when you failed but you learned a lot in the process and were stronger and wiser in the end.
SHARE THE SUCCESS/// Has your student showed courage or bravery this month? Let me know about the courageous actions, decisions and choices your student made! We will be highlighting brave and courageous acts this month in class.
When kids learn friendship, they learn it for life!
Blessings,
